Hot Tub for Home
Remember the pool I added to my house last week? Here’s this week’s addition to our (dream) house: a hot tub! :P

Welcome to the Weekly Quick Hits Roundup! Every week I write a weekly wrap-up of things that were going on here at Young Adult Money, a few personal updates/thoughts, and finally a few posts I read this week that I thought were worth sharing.

We also have our giveaway roundup every Friday. This Friday there are over 200 giveaways listed that end today through next Thursday.

Below are the posts from Monday through Thursday:

  • On Monday I discussed The Financial and Life Benefits of getting Lasik Eye Surgery. I was glad to find out in the comments that I’m not the only one with an irrational fear of Lasik surgery.
  • On Tuesday we had an awesome guest telling you How to attend high cost events for free. Definitely loved hearing about Tara’s experience getting into events for free and might have to give it a try myself sometime.
  • On Wednesday our staff writer Cat talked about the high cost of food in How I Conquered $1,000 in Food Bills. Depending on where you live in the world, food can be ridiculously expensive!
  • On Thursday our good friend Kyle James shared 6 Ways to Maximize Back-to-School Savings I love how Kyle has tips on how to save on just about anything, and back-to-school shopping is no different!

I have a few updates to share:

  • COSTA RICA! – I alluded to it last week, but it’s official: we got the save-the-date to our friend’s wedding in Costa Rica this Spring! She was one of my really good friends in high school and I totally want to go. Do you think we can pay for the whole trip through giveaway winnings? I’m optimistic that we can ;)
  • Site Redesign – No progress this week. The ball is in my court, but I haven’t had time to review the contract yet. Just a little busy trying to get our rental unit ready for the new renter…not to mention the blog!
  • Weekend – I have a wedding tonight which should be a ton of fun. Beyond that, I mainly am going to focus on getting our rental unit ready for our new renter who moves in next week, as well as writing a few posts for the site.

Finally, here are five posts that I really enjoyed from this week:

  • Erin from Economag shared A Love Letter to Millennials, From The Stock Market.
  • Nick from A Young Pro celebrated his My Six Month Blogiversary.
  • Kyle from Rather-Be-Shopping gave some advice to all us married men in 6 Things Every Man Needs to Know When Shopping for His Wife.
  • Sean from One Smart Dollar talked about my favorite topic in How to Make Extra Money Online.
  • Kim from Eyes on the Dollar talks about landing a job in Finding a Job In a Tough Market.

How was your week? What are your plans for the weekend?

Enjoy the wedding this week end. Wish you are able to make it to COSTA RICA, Wedding is only special occasion when someone would like you visit and great to meet old high school friends. By the way your hot tub is good i am sure you are having good fun

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

SamgillYep definitely excited about Costa Rica and the wedding!  The hot tub is not actually mine, it’s a bit of a continuation of a joke from last week when I said I just put in a new pool ;)

  2. Holly at ClubThrifty says

I really want that hot tub, DC!  Have a great weekend!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Holly at ClubThrifty Thanks you too!

  3. Matt @ Mom and Dad Money says

Costa Rica is awesome! We went for our honeymoon back in December and we fell in love. What part of the country is the wedding in? We spent most of our time in the south-western portion and it’s so beautiful down there. If you can take an extra few days to do your own exploring it’s definitely worth it.

    • Matt @ Mom and Dad Money says

Feel free to hit me up if you want any advice. My knowledge is fairly limited to the things we actually did but I’m happy to pass on whatever’s helpful.

      • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Matt @ Mom and Dad MoneyThat’s awesome!  I definitely will have to get some more info from you when we get closer to the trip.  I unfortunately can’t remember off the top of my head what part of the country it is in.

  4. OneSmartDollar says

I love that you have a list of giveaways on fridays, that’s awesome to find it all in one place. I’m going to start looking into that. Have an awesome weekend, sounds like you will!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Monicaonmoney Thanks so much for the kind words.  Yes, the giveaway roundup has been a popular weekly post of ours : )  My wife does all the work so I can’t take credit.  Hope you have a great weekend too!

  9. TacklingOurDebt says

Enjoy the wedding and have good weekend DC!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

TacklingOurDebt Thanks Sicorra!  Hope you have a great weekend too!

  10. SavvyScot says

Our local costco has one of those hot tubs and I am SO tempted!!!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

SavvyScot I say go for it if you can afford it ;)

  11. TheHeavyPurse says

Costa Rica will be so much fun and I bet you can fund it with your giveaway winnings. You’ve got time! A hot tub would be nice but umm…. what do you with an outdoors hot tub in MN? I used to travel to Minneapolis for work so I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing your cold winter days! :) Have a great weekend!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

TheHeavyPurse Haha well if you are willing to shell out the money you can have a hot tub in the Winter, which actually is amazing as my friend had his set up for a couple winters.  Really expensive, though.  Hope you have a great weekend!

  12. Tara Zee says

Glad you are going to experience Costa Rica! Keep us posted on the process of getting a tenant, as someone who wants to own a multi-family home one day, I like to hear people’s experiences. Good luck!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Tara Zee Will do!  We actually had our renter move out end of July and we have our next renter moving in next week : )  She was a friend of the former renter and asked us about it as she knew the former renter was moving out.  It was nice not having to find a renter, they came to us.  I don’t think that is the typical way it works haha.

  13. Eyesonthedollar says

That would be too sweet to win enough money for a trip. I entered every giveaway last week, and will keep doing so. Thanks for the mention.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Eyesonthedollar Best of luck Kim!  I definitely am going to give it my best shot : )

  14. Laurie TheFrugalFarmer says

Costa Rica sounds like fun!  We are SO not into the hot tub thing ever since we went to the house of a friend of a friend and went in their hot tub, which was full of floating parts of skin particles or something totally gross like that.  No more hot tubs for us. Sorry to put a damper on your dream. :-)

  15. Beachbudget says

That hot tub looks nice as I’m so sore from doing yoga yesterday for the first time in month! Yay for CR! I’ve been there 3 times and loved it! I hope you can go with all your winnings too. :)

  16. SingleMomIncome says

I am working on getting a semi custom blog design. I just saw another pf blog pop up with my same exact theme and it really bothered me! I hope to have my blog redesigned in the next couple of weeks. Good luck with yours, have a great weekend!

  17. YourDailyFin says

Still waiting on the new theme design.  We understand life gets in the way sometimes.  A pool and a hot tube.  How is the new renter coming along are they in yet?  Good luck with paying for the trip with giveaway winnings.  Costa Rica sounds like a nice place for a wedding enjoy!
