Yellowstone WaterfallToday’s pic of the week is a pic of a waterfall at Yellowstone.

Welcome to the Weekly Quick Hits Roundup!

If you’re new here, every week I write a weekly wrap-up of things that were going on here at Young Adult Money, a few personal updates/thoughts, and finally a few posts I read this week that I thought were worth sharing.

If you don’t already, please considering Following us on Twitter, Liking us on Facebook, and Following us on Pinterest.

We also have our giveaway roundup every Friday. This Friday there are 90 giveaways listed this week that end today (8/29) through next Thursday (9/4).
_____________________________________________________________________

Happy Friday everyone!

Who’s excited about the three-day weekend? I’ll be going to the Minnesota State Fair. The fair will be busy this weekend but still should be fun. I went on Monday as well and had a deep-fried candy bar. Yes, a candy bar. Deep fried. You can see a pic of one here.

I’m also doing a fantasy football draft this weekend. I used to do at least some research for it, but this year I’ve done NO research whatsoever. There’s a lot of luck involved in fantasy football because there are so many injuries and a lot can change throughout the season.

I learned how to play this yard game called kubb a couple weekends ago and I’m addicted. It’s a great Spring/Summer/Fall yard game if you have a flat area to use. If you live near a park that might be the easiest place to play.

Problem is, I only know one person who owns a kubb set. I considered purchasing one, but saw that it was $60 on Amazon. I might make one myself but the estimated cost is $40.

Kubb

If I make my own maybe I can write a post about it? Always looking for post ideas…

So that’s what’s going on in my world, how about yours?

Below are the posts we published this week:

  • On Sunday I explained How to Make Money While on Vacation.
  • On Monday I asked Discover it vs Discover it Chrome – Which is Better?.
  • On Monday I explained 3 Ways to Make Your Side Hustle More Profitable and Efficient.
  • On Tuesday I gave some tips on How to be Productive When You are a Night Owl.
  • On Wednesday Cat explained Why It’s OK To Make Money Mistakes

Posts of the Week:

As usual, here are 5 posts that I enjoyed this week from around the blogosphere:

  • Natalie from The Finance Girl shared 7 Reasons Why I Will Never Lease A Car
  • Shannon from The Heavy Purse wrote an important piece about Understanding Long-Term Care and How to Pay for It
  • Kim from Eyes on the Dollar asked Do Bloggers Ever Run Out Of Things To Say?
  • Andrew from Living Rich Cheaply asked Should I Renew My AAA Membership?
  • Shannon from Financially Blonde shared the Top Ten Ways to Improve Credit Scores

____________

Anything fun planned for the long weekend (assuming you get one)? Have you ever played kubb? What’s your favorite lawn game?

I have never heard of kubb but my son has a similar table sized game that supposed to be really good for brain development. And while I have never played kubb, I have had a deep fried candy bar. At first I thought I would be grossed out by it, but it was actually delicious. My favorite unnecessarily fried item is an oreo, though. Thanks for mentioning my post and I hope you have a fantastic long weekend!!

  2. Kassandra @ More Than Just Money says

Nope, never heard of kubb!  I love to play dominos but I reserve that for when I’m in Trinidad because a bunch of Trini’s playing dominos is an experience to be had – pure jokes as we say!  Enjoy the state fair DC :)

  3. Andrew LivingRichCheaply says

Thanks for the mention!  Have fun at the fair…deep fried candy bar, I did not know you could deep fry a candy bar!  Enjoy the long weekend.  We need more of them.

  4. theFinancegirl says

Wow, a deep fried candy bar?! That sounds incredible. Thank you so much for the mention! Have fun this weekend :)

  5. Eyesonthedollar says

Did you put that Yellowstone picture up for me? I’ve never heard of kubb, but we got addicted to a game called, of all things, corn hole last summer. Kind of like horseshoes but you throw beanbags full if corn. Great way to waste an afternoon! Thanks for the mention.

  6. ShannonRyan says

Thanks for mentioning my post, DC! I appreciate it very much. It is an important topic and one that far too many people are not up to speed on how it works. A deep fried candy bar, hmmmm. I don’t think that would be for me but Chris and the girls would probably enjoy one! Have a great 3-day weekend!

  7. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Andrew LivingRichCheaply No problem, and thanks!  Yes, I can’t wait to have another deep fried candy bar!  Sounds like a dumb idea but whoever went through with starting the stand likely will make millions off it over time.  It’s hugely successful.

  8. DC @ Young Adult Money says

theFinancegirl No problem!  And the deep fried candy bar is a must-have if you ever make it to the Minnesota State Fair ;)  Hope you have a great weekend!

  9. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Kassandra @ More Than Just Money Hmmm I honestly haven’t played dominos in probably 10-15 years.  It seems like a good game to play if you want to chill out and sit around, though.  Hope you have a great weekend!

  10. DC @ Young Adult Money says

blonde_finance When I was looking on Amazon I saw some sort of kubb “chess” where the stakes are numbered or something?  Seems like a lot of work to me ;)  Oh a deep fried oreo is something I haven’t tried! Hope you have a good long weekend as well!

  11. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Eyesonthedollar Haha I might have subconsciously thought about Yellowstone from your post!  It’s sometimes hard to think of new “random” photos each week, but this one is beautiful.  I really need to go back to Yellowstone again now that I feel I can fully appreciate it.  Oh are you talking about bags??? Bags is a great game!  Hope you have a great weekend, Kim!

  12. DC @ Young Adult Money says

ShannonRyan No problem Shannon!  I like to mention people who comment on the blog regularly, and you have definitely been a VERY consistent commenter.  It took me a few years to give the deep fried candy bar a try but now I get it every year.  Hope you have a great weekend as well!

  13. Mrs. Frugalwoods says

I’ve never heard of kubb, but it looks like something I would enjoy. Have fun at the state fair! Not sure about the deep fried candy bar, but I’ll take your word for it :)!
