4th of July Washington DC FireworksHappy 4th of July!

Welcome to the Weekly Quick Hits Roundup!

If you’re new here, every week I write a weekly wrap-up of things that were going on here at Young Adult Money, a few personal updates/thoughts, and finally a few posts I read this week that I thought were worth sharing.

If you don’t already, please considering Following us on Twitter, Liking us on Facebook, and Following us on Pinterest.

We also have our giveaway roundup every Friday. This Friday there are 89 giveaways listed this week that end today (7/4) through next Thursday (7/10).

Happy Friday everyone, and Happy 4th of July to my fellow Americans!

I have always enjoyed the 4th of July. It’s a good break in the middle of the Summer, firework displays are awesome, and I’ve had some good times in the past with my family and friends.

I haven’t done much the past few 4th of July holidays, and honestly can’t really remember the last time I saw fireworks :0 I think it was maybe 4 years ago? Prior to that I have seen them every single year.

This 4th of July I am pretty set on seeing fireworks, and I have no excuse not to because the 4th is on a Friday. Typically, being an accountant, I have not been able to take the 5th of July off if the 4th falls on a non-Friday.

I even remember going to bed a few years ago before it was fully dark out on the 4th. I was upset about all the fireworks the neighbors were setting off and kept wondering why I even tried to go to sleep early on the 4th of July. What was I thinking?

This was my last week at my current job. I’ve been with the same team for four years, dating all the way back to my internship. It’s going to be a real change for me to not be on that team, because I’ve spent 100% of my professional life with them. When it comes to careers change is typically good, though, and I’m ready to dive into my new work.

Anyway I will restrain myself from commenting about the World Cup game besides the fact that I got to work at 6am to make sure I could leave on time to watch the US game at home. Still can’t believe it’s over.

Hope you have a great Friday and a great weekend!

Below are the posts we published this week:

  • On Monday I shared a Job Search Check List.
  • On Tuesday I shared 20 Random Things about DC of Young Adult Money.
  • On Wednesday Cat shared 5 Fun and Inexpensive July 4 Activities
  • On Thursday I shared Top 10 Things Our Generation Will Be The Last to See.

Posts of the Week:

As usual, here are five posts from around the blogosphere that I enjoyed:

  • Charles from Getting a Rich Life explained How I Had Everything When We Had No Money
  • Natalie from The Finance Girl explained How Google Saved Me $4,000
  • Tonya from Budget and the Beach shared So Many Goals, So Little Time
  • Kirsten from Indebted and In Debt talked financial windfalls in Do As I Say: Windfall Edition
  • Andrew from Living Rich Cheaply talked about Financial Decisions: Emotion vs Logic

____________

How was your week? If you are from the US, how do you like to celebrate the 4th of July or how has your celebration changed over the years?

Happy 4th of July, DC!  I hope you really really enjoy your fireworks!  What a great way to go out of your old job ~ with a bang!  Actually you will still be in the same company, so they may come calling, which is nice for the people taking over from you.  I took over a job last fall from someone who left the company.  He gave me his contact details, but I have never bothered him because it’s not the same when someone leaves.  Plus I didn’t really know him well.  I only got to know him during the one week of knowledge transfer.  The area I took over is complex and I’ve been figuring things out on my own, but sometimes I think it would be so easy if I could ask someone.

Good luck with your new job!

Thanks so much, DC! I hope you have an awesome weekend and Happy 4th!!

  3. Laurie TheFrugalFarmer says

Happy 4th of July, DC!  Looking forward to hearing more about your new job/team. :-)

  4. BudgetforMore says

That game was rather painful to watch. On the brightside, it is great to soccer gaining so much momentum here in the states. To celebrate the 4th, we are planning on grilling brats at my parents house and hopefully catching a fireworks display tonight. We are heading over to their house early so we can also watch France vs. Germany too. Hope you have a great day!

  5. Raquel@Practical Cents says

I have to say that Tim Howard was amazing in that USA game.  I kept saying, “wow he’s like Ochoa blocking those goals”.  Anyway, sad to see them go out like that.  I hope they have better results in the next World Cup.

I’m personally looking forward to the Brasil vs Colombia game today.  I’m excited to see the Neymar vs James matchup.  Colombia is on fire and even though I root for Brasil it would be nice to see an underdog try to go for it against a giant like Brasil.

    Happy 4th!

Happy 4th, good luck on the job change. I’ve been with the same company 15 years so I’ve never taken that plunge. Usa soccer is in good hands

  7. DC @ Young Adult Money says

theFinancegirl No problem!  Hope you have a great weekend and (had) a great 4th!

  8. DC @ Young Adult Money says

debt debs I hear you about someone leaving the company versus moving somewhere else within the company.  It’s definitely different and I feel you almost can’t reach out to someone once they are gone.   Happy 4th to you as well, tho!  Fireworks were great and I hope they were great for you as well.

  9. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Laurie TheFrugalFarmer Thanks Laurie!  I’m anxious and excited to get started!

  10. DC @ Young Adult Money says

BudgetforMore It was definitely painful to watch.  It’s too bad there wouldn’t have been a better end result.  We definitely had a chance to win.

Sounds like a great 4th!  I grilled and watched fireworks from my friend’s boat.  It was a good time.

  11. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Charles@gettingarichlife It’s essentially the same company, it’s just one of the biggest companies in the US so moving within the companies is kind of like moving to a whole new company.  We’ll see how it goes.  Happy 4th to you as well!

  12. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Raquel@Practical Cents It really was too bad that they couldn’t get the win, mainly because Howard was on fire.  Seriously was incredible how he kept the US in the game.  I was really hoping Colombia would win today but it happens.

Happy 4th to you as well!

  13. No Nonsense Landlord says

Lots of great bloggers there.  I watched the Eagan fireworks last night.  They are some of the best in the cities.  I the background, I could see Rosemount fireworks, it looks like they have a great show too.

  14. DonebyForty says

Best of luck with the new position, David. And yeah, bummer about the US team — they really had me believing there in the last few minutes of extra time.

  15. DC @ Young Adult Money says

No Nonsense Landlord Nice, I haven’t seen the Eagan ones before.  I watched the Roseville one’s from my friend’s boat, though, and was able to see some of Shoreview’s fireworks too which were okay.

  16. DC @ Young Adult Money says

DonebyForty Thanks!  You should have seen me in the last 10-15 minutes of extra time – so much cursing and yelling!  And that’s not like me.

  17. DonebyForty says

DC @ Young Adult Money DonebyForty I was right there with you. I still think about that set piece…

  18. Andrew LivingRichCheaply says

DC…hope you had a great fourth of July weekend!  Had my son’s first birthday party this weekend…glad we had great weather since it was so great last week.  Also good that the weather cleared up for the fireworks.

  19. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Andrew LivingRichCheaply Happy Birthday to your son!  The clouds really cleared up here in Minnesota as well, made for good fireworks.
