Hawaii Mountain and CoastDreaming of a Hawaii Vacation…

Welcome to the Weekly Quick Hits Roundup!

If you’re new here, every week I write a weekly wrap-up of things that were going on here at Young Adult Money, a few personal updates/thoughts, and finally a few posts I read this week that I thought were worth sharing.

If you don’t already, please considering Following us on Twitter, Liking us on Facebook, and Following us on Pinterest.

We also have our giveaway roundup every Friday. This Friday there are 142 giveaways listed this week that end today (4/18) through next Thursday (4/24).
_____________________________________________________________________

Happy Friday everyone!

This will be a quick weekly update, which is ironic because I only worked Monday through Wednesday this week. My wife had surgery on Thursday (a planned surgery) and is recovering, but that took pretty much the entire day Thursday. I also have been posting quite a bit this week with afternoon/evening posts on Wednesday and Thursday on top of our regular morning posts.

We had what will hopefully be our last large snowfall of the year this week. I really want to get going on some yard work and make a dent in things early on this year. When you have a new house with a yard that was neglected for years and years it’s easy for yard work to consume your free time. My goal is to be intentional about how I use my time on the weekends throughout the Summer so that I have a good balance of work and play.

Easter is this weekend and my family has been gracious enough to come to our house as my wife will still be recovering. I don’t even have to cook anything, which is nice! Also shout out to our friends who brought some delicious lasagna, salad, and dessert for us the day of the surgery. I posted a pic of it on my instagram – I follow back :)

I wanted to share my latest post on the FeeX blog was 8 Lifestyle Changes That Can Save You Lots of Money Over Time. It’s incredible the big impact that small changes can have when you factor in a long time horizon.

Below are the posts we published this week:

  • On Monday I shared 4 Ways to be Better Prepared for Taxes Next Year.
  • On Tuesday Sally talked about Getting Started On LinkedIn Part 1.
  • On Wednesday I talked about When I Realized Ownership and Passive Income are Key to Wealth.
  • On Wednesday I shared 3 Ways to Recover from a Financial Setback.
  • On Thursday Sally shared part 2 of her 2-part series in Getting Started On LinkedIn
  • On Thursday I shared a Frugal Summer Activity Idea: Camping.

Posts of the Week:

As usual, here are five posts from around the blogosphere that I enjoyed:

  • Stefanie from The Broke and the Beautiful Life asked Do I Need Travel Insurance?
  • Shannon from Financially Blonde shared YouTube – My DIY Best Friends
  • Jason from The Butler Journal shared 5 Habits That Are Keeping You From Success
  • Brian from Luke 1428 gave us Teaching Kids About Money: 4 Age Appropriate Lessons
  • Holly from Club Thrifty explained Why I Would Rather Be Poor Than Work for Someone Else

Wow! You were busy this week! We’re staying local and enjoying some down time, hope you do too! Happy Easter DC!

  2. Eyesonthedollar says

I’m sure the Easter bunny will make a visit, but other than that I have no plans, which is nice. It’s pretty much non-stop until the end of school. I’m not sure why they pack so much into the last 6 weeks, but I’m looking forward to a relaxing weekend and hope the weather cooperates.

  3. Andrew LivingRichCheaply says

I was pretty surprised to see snow on the cars in the morning the beginning of this week.  I though we were done with snow!  Hope your wife is doing well.  I have some family coming from  out of state so it’ll  be a busy weekend.

  4. FrugalRules says

Other than doing something with the kids, we likely won’t be doing much this weekend which will be a nice break. We do have quite a few things planned landscape wise for the yard this year…we just need it to stop snowing! We got about two inches of snow Sunday/Monday after being 82 on Saturday. Hope you have a great weekend DC and hope your wife is doing well.

  5. Beachbudget says

Hope your wife recovers quickly and feels better soon! I have friends in town who are doing a beach day so I’ll probably just stop by to hang with them for a bit. Nothing too fancy since I don’t really celebrate Easter in the traditional/religious way.

  6. brokeandbeau says

Thanks for the shout out DC.  Here’s to a quick recovery and a great Easter weekend!

  7. Jason @ The Butler Journal says

Thanks for including me in the round up!

  8. Raquel@Practical Cents says

So sorry to hear about more snow.  We just had a snap of arctic air roll in this week.  It went from 80 to 30 in just a few hours! Some even got snow, thankfully not where I live.  I have no plans for the weekend but I have a wedding to attend tonight out of state so that should be enough.  We were thinking of putting some pavers in a few spots in our yard but we’ll see since we have the big retaining wall project coming up.  Have a good weekend and I hope your wife has a quick recovery.

  9. blonde_finance says

I hope that your wife is on the mend!! Any surgery, even if planned can be scary, and that was so sweet of your friends to bring dinner. We actually celebrated Easter last week because tomorrow is my birthday and Sunday we are actually taking my son to his first Broadway show, Aladdin, in the afternoon, so we would not have time to do something with the family. Thank you so much for including my hubby’s post, you made his day, and have a great weekend!

  10. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Catina  It was definitely a busy week!  It’s nice to be home today, though.  Happy Easter to you too!

  11. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Eyesonthedollar  The teachers probably fall behind and realize they have a ton to get through before the end of the year ;)  But I hope you have a relaxing weekend.  We should have some pretty decent weather here, though it might rain (which is better than snow!)

  12. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Andrew LivingRichCheaply  Yeah it seems to be never-ending!  Hope you have a good weekend with family.

  13. DC @ Young Adult Money says

FrugalRules  Wow 82 and then snow?  That’s pretty intense.  Hope you have a great weekend as well!

  14. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Beachbudget  Thanks so much Tonya!  I hope you have a fun day at the beach – that sounds so amazing right now.  It’s starting to warm up here so I hope the warm weather sticks around this time.

  15. DC @ Young Adult Money says

brokeandbeau  No problem, Stefanie!  Thanks and hope you have a great Easter weekend as well!

  16. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Jason @ The Butler Journal  No problem, Jason!  I’ve been enjoying your posts lately – keep them coming!

  17. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Raquel@Practical Cents  I think my least favorite thing about Spring is the temperature swings.  Seems like you need to wear layers every day because you don’t know if it will be freezing cold or hot out!

I’m looking forward to hearing how your retaining wall project goes.  As I’ve said, I’m doing ours myself.  I just hope I don’t screw it up and have to call in professionals.  If I did that it would have been better to just not even try myself!

Hope you have a good weekend as well!

  18. DC @ Young Adult Money says

blonde_finance  Surgery is definitely stressful even if it’s planned.  I had to ‘sweat out’ the surgery in the waiting room, and I haven’t had to do that before (in the past it’s always been me who was being operated on!).

Happy early Birthday!  We haven’t been to a Broadway show, but I definitely would like to at some point.  Hope you have a great weekend!
