Christmas Tree LightsWelcome to the Weekly Quick Hits Roundup!

If you’re new here, every week I write a weekly wrap-up of things that were going on here at Young Adult Money, a few personal updates/thoughts, and finally a few posts I read this week that I thought were worth sharing.

If you don’t already, please considering Following us on Twitter, Liking us on Facebook, and Following us on Pinterest.

We also have our giveaway roundup every Friday. This Friday there are 150 giveaways listed this week that end today (12/20) through next Thursday (12/26).
_____________________________________________________________________

Happy Holidays! – This crazy holiday season is coming to a close and we can finally get retailers off our back and enjoy Christmas ;)

Every Christmas Eve I get together with my immediate family to exchange gifts and attend my parent’s church’s Christmas Eve service.

Christmas Day I will be spending with my wife. I think we’ll see a movie, either The Wolf of Wall Street, American Hustle, or Anchorman 2. Are you planning on seeing any of these movies? I only go to about two or three movies a year so it’s strange that I have three movies I wouldn’t mind seeing all out at the same time.

Weekend – This weekend is going to be one of the busiest of the entire year for me. I have a gender reveal party for one of our close friends (I’m guessing girl), a wedding on Saturday for my cousin-in-law, and Christmas with my extended family on Sunday. Work on Monday morning is going to be rough!

Exercise – Working on it…New Year’s Resolution??? :P

Blogging – I had five days of PTO recently and, as expected, didn’t get as far ahead as I had hoped I would on the blog. I had this idea that I somehow would have time to be a month ahead on posts, have all the little pesky admin things taken care of, and even maybe get going on my second site! My wife definitely is right when she says I make unrealistic goals for time off and I should really just relax more.

Nevertheless, I am a bit ahead which is nice as I am approaching a very busy time at work.

Now, to leave you with a laugh – I was literally in tears when my friend showed me this video last weekend!

Below are the posts we published this week:

  • On Monday I shared How I am getting a free $400 for travel in the New Year. I suggest you check this out as a way to fund travel next year. If you are married or dating you can technically get $800 for travel expenses. That’s some serious cash!
  • On Tuesday Sally talked about her aging laptop in My Laptop is Now Six Years Old.
  • On Wednesday Cat talked about goal-setting in How to Set Realistic Goals for the New Year.
  • On Thursday I talked about an important issue in This Close – The campaign to end Polio.

Posts of the Week:

If you want to see your post included in this roundup, comment on posts on Young Adult Money throughout the week – that’s where I find blogs/posts to include.

  • Aileen from Miss Tightwad shared Sell Your Stuff – Nov & Dec 2013
  • Suburban Finance shared 6 Ways to Save More Money Today.
  • Cat from Budget Blonde shared Things You Should and Shouldn’t Say to a Mom of Twins.
  • Stefanie from The Broke and Beautiful Life shared Budget Travel: 3 Days in Las Vegas
  • Holly from Club Thrifty talked about stereotypes – and breaking them – in A Frugal Shopper’s Guide to Stocking Stuffers.

____________

What do you have planned for this weekend and/or Christmas? Any movies you are looking forward to seeing? Is year-end a busy time for you at work or do things slow down?

Its going to be a fun but busy weekend for us too. We are going out tonight with friends and tomorrow we are going to see the Nutcracker. Should be fun. Still lots of cleaning around the house and blogging to be done as well :) Have a good weekend!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

BudgetforMoreMy friends went to the Nutcracker a couple of weekends ago, sounds like the thing to do for Christmas!  Hope you have a great weekend as well!

  2. Matt @ Mom and Dad Money says

Wolf on Wall St and American Hustle both look really cool. Love the actors in both. If you end up seeing them I’d love to hear your thoughts.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Matt @ Mom and Dad MoneyI will definitely share my thoughts.  I can’t wait to see both of them!

  3. FrugalRules says

We’re just taking it easy with the kids this weekend and do something fun with them. I’m really hoping to be able to take the weekend off and just do things around the house, so we’ll see. I actually want to see all three of those movies, especially the Wolf of Wall Street and Anchorman 2, though I fear I’m going to get drug to that new Disney movie by my wife.  ;) Have a great weekend DC!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

FrugalRulesSounds like a great weekend, John!  Haha I forget that parents inevitably end up going to a lot of Disney movies, that’s great.

  4. Andrew LivingRichCheaply says

We’ll be having a busy weekend too…my brother-in-law and another relative flying in early tomorrow and my wife’s sister/parents will be coming over too.   Also will be going to dinner with my extended family and then my immediate family Christmas evening…possibly wife’s family Christmas day/afternoon.  Man it’s a crazy juggling act!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Andrew LivingRichCheaplyWow you have a lot going on the next week!  This will be an insanely busy weekend for me but I’m excited for all of it.

  5. moneycone says

Haha, great video!  Happy Holidays David!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

moneyconeHaha I thought some people would enjoy the video.  Happy Holidays to you as well!

  6. RatherBeShopping says

When I see videos like Skippy I laugh hysterically, then wonder why I can’t some up with some stupid idea for a video and put in on YouTube, get a million views, and start collecting money! The Daughtry bros. one is hilarious too. Enjoy your busy weekend!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

RatherBeShoppingI didn’t even know about Skippy until last weekend.  I’m always amazed at how some people make a full-time living through Youtube.  I wish I could think of great ideas – and actually go through with them.

  7. Raquel@Practical Cents says

Low key Christmas for us just my father-in-law will be coming over.  I was just saying last night to my husband that we need to check out Anchorman.  We never saw the original one.  Have a nice weekend.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Raquel@Practical CentsI’d definitely give Anchorman a watch.  I think it’s overrated, but that’s inevitable when you spend as much time and money marketing as they did.

  8. brokeandbeau says

Thanks for the shout out!  Have you ever seen the invisible driver drive thru prank?

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

brokeandbeauNo problem!  I have not seen that one, but it sounds like it has potential.  I’ll have to check it out sometime.

  9. ShannonRyan says

I’m glad Christmas is almost here too. I love the holidays but it is so busy that I’m ready to just relax and not have to be racing somewhere. Have a great weekend, DC!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

ShannonRyan I think you aren’t alone in that feeling, Shannon.  I’m really looking forward to being able to catch my breath for a couple days!

  10. BudgetBlonde says

Thanks for the mention!! I would say Victoria is right and you should relax more, but I do the exact same thing haha!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

BudgetBlondehaha I was going to say “look who’s talking!”

  11. debtperception says

This weekend my husband and I are going to see Hunger Games, go out to eat for lunch, then go back and see The Hobbit.  It’s been forever since we went out to eat, and it’s only happened maybe twice this year.  Work mostly slows down near the holidays but I get way more opportunities for pet sitting as I don’t usually travel around the holidays (too expensive).

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

debtperception Hunger Games is a great film!  You guy will love it.  I also don’t travel but it’s because my family all lives close to my home.

  12. Brian @ Luke1428 says

Think we will be going to see the second Hobbit movie. The holidays sure are jammed packed with activities. Hope you find some time to relax. I’m probably going to take some time away from blogging even just to get recharged.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Brian @ Luke1428 I almost forgot the Hobbit was out.  I loved the LOTR movies, but missed the first Hobbit film.  Great idea to take a break, I should do the same and plan on not putting any time into it Tuesday or Wednesday – gotta take some time off.

  13. Beachbudget says

I really want to see American Hustle. I’ll have to wait for this cough to die down so I don’t annoy the whole theater. :) Have fun this weekend, and don’t worry about the blogging thing. Just pace yourself my friend!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Beachbudget I definitely need to pace myself, but I’ve never been good at that : /  I hope that your cough goes away!  I’m definitely excited for American Hustle.

  14. Miss Tightwad says

    Thanks for including me, David!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

      Miss Tightwad No problem!

  15. ImpersonalFinance says

Great list of posts here, and that video literally made me LOL.  But, I know what you mean about hoping to het ahead during time off… it never seems to work out in the way I hoped for.  Enjoy your holiday!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

ImpersonalFinance I’m glad you liked the video!  I don’t watch Youtube much but I’m so glad my friend shared that gem with me a couple weeks ago.
