Maui Beach
Maui, Hawaii – a place I wouldn’t mind visiting twice in my lifetime.

Welcome to the Weekly Quick Hits Roundup! Every week I write a weekly wrap-up of things that were going on here at Young Adult Money, a few personal updates/thoughts, and finally a few posts I read this week that I thought were worth sharing.

We also have our giveaway roundup every Friday. This Friday there are over 250 giveaways listed that end today (9/27) through next Thursday (10/3).

Below are the posts from this week:

  • On Monday I asked Thinking about Going Back to School? 5 Things to Consider. Going to college initially is usually an easy choice. Going back for an advanced degree, to finish a degree, or to get another undergrad degree can be a very difficult decision.
  • On Tuesday I shared 10 Reasons to Get a Discover it Credit Card. I’ve used Discover almost exclusively over the past five or six years. You’ll see why if you read this post.
  • On Wednesday our staff writer Cat shared Three Amazing Things to Buy in India. Her husband traveled there this Summer for a few weeks so she has some unique insights.
  • On Thursday we had a guest post from Romona Bradham, who blogs at Monasez.com. She shared 5 Reasons You Shouldn’t Let Your Parents Influence Your Financial Decisions in Your 20s.

Update Time

  • New Staff Writer – Our new staff writer’s first post will be on Tuesday. I hope you all come and give her a warm welcome!

In case you’re wondering, this has no impact on Cat’s Wednesday posts. We recently signed a new contract through the end of the year so be sure to stop by on Wednesdays and check out her posts.

  • A New Obsession of Mine – I don’t know if it’s because I’ve watched too much Property Brothers or HGTV in general, but I’ve been having fun recently thinking up how I want to renovate our house down the road. I’ve spent a ton time thinking about how different layouts would work and I think I’ve finally thought up the ideal basement and upstairs layout.

The ironic thing is that we haven’t even lived there a year yet and have a rental suite set up in the basement and have no intention of changing that layout in the near future. But hey, it’s fun to plan for the future.

  • New Workout Goal – Lots of “new” stuff this week. I set a new workout goal this week: run at least 3 miles a day, 4 days a week, for at least three weeks. This is week one and I should finish up day four today after work. My main reason for doing this is to get back in the habit of running on a consistent basis week-in and week-out. Once I have that going for me I would like to start a lifting plan. I have never consistently lifted over a long period of time, so I’d really like to give it a shot.
  • Pinterest – I’m always looking to expand the presence of Young Adult Money through social media. Last week I finally signed up for a Pinterest account. Follow our boards here (we’ll follow back!).

Posts of the Week:

  • Alexa from Single Mom Income shared Laser Focus: How to Make Your Side Business Grow Faster.
  • Nick from A Young Pro shared Monthly Twitter Tips – The Best Books for a Young Person to Read.
  • Katie from Ask the Young Professional gave some advice in Using Your Twenties To Prepare For Your Future.
  • Pauline from Reach Financial Independence tells you how you can Rent our little house in Guatemala on Airbnb!.
  • J. Money from Budgets Are Sexy asks 3 Awesomely Random Yard Sale Finds.

What are your plans this weekend? Are you on Pinterest? If you are, any tips for a relative noob? Any workout/exercise goals?

Thank you for the mention! I signed up for Pinterest once but just could not get into it.I definitely don’t think Pinterest is for me!! I am just going to stick with Twitter.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

SingleMomIncome No problem!  I hear you, there is something to be said about being committed to just one or a few social media sites instead of trying to juggle all of them.

  2. AskTheYoPro says

Thanks, DC, for including me in your weekly round up! I just followed your boards on Pinterest as well :)

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

AskTheYoPro Thanks for the follow and no problem on the mention!  I hope you have a great weekend!

  3. FrugalRules says

You’re killing me with these Friday pics DC! :)  I signed up for Pinterest several months ago and really have not done anything with it. I should though as I’ve heard it can be a great source of traffic. I am busy brewing more beer with my brother this weekend and likely a little work.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

FrugalRules Haha I have had a lot of fun with the Friday pics.  I’ve also heard good things about traffic from Pinterest, and overall I just see it as another place to get my content out there.  Hope you have a great weekend!

  4. Matt @ Mom and Dad Money says

I like the running goal. That’s something I really had going for a while but have definitely let slip. Glad to hear at least someone is on track.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Matt @ Mom and Dad Money You should get back into it!  I have had periods where I was committed to running regularly but also periods where I completely stopped.  I feel so much better when I get those regular workouts in, though.

  5. SavvyWithSaving says

I signed up for a pinterest account but haven’t been able to get into it. I just never have anything interesting to pin! I do like to look at other people’s boards though!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

SavvyWithSaving Yeah some people have a TON of boards filled with great ideas.  I would love to be one of those people, but it will probably take some time.

  6. Holly at ClubThrifty says

I’m on Pinterest but I haven’t had much time to be active.  There is only time for so much social media…know what I mean?
Anyway, hope you have a great weekend!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Holly at ClubThrifty Exactly!  I tweeted that exact thought yesterday.  There’s so many different places you can post things and interact on, etc., there is only so much time in a day to do it all.
Hope you have a great weekend as well!

  7. ayoungpro says

Awww man, now I want to go back to Maui! Thanks for the mention David.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

ayoungpro I don’t blame you for wanting to go back to Maui haha.  No problem about the mention, hope you have a great weekend!

  8. Ca$hFunny says

That workout goal sounds like a good idea.  Cara and I work out at least 4 times a week and it makes us feel so much better.  Have a good weekend!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Ca$hFunny Yeah I love working out but I have such little time (even with sleeping less than 6 hours a night) that sometimes I have to cut it out.  But getting a decent run in four times a week is doable I think.

  9. Beachbudget says

Looking forward to seeing who the new staff writer will be! Good luck with the running as well. Have a great weekend!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Beachbudget Glad you are looking forward to seeing her post!  Hope you have a good weekend too!

  10. RFIndependence says

thank you for the mention, the running goal is ambitious! Will you be running indoors?

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

RFIndependence I only run indoors even in the Summer because of my allergies.  Hopefully by next Summer they will be under control and i can spend more time outside.

  11. KyleJames1 says

You’re killing me with the Maui pic – I was their last summer and would so love to return!
I like the workout plan, I started doing something similar a few months ago and I love how I feel. I also use the MyFitnessPal app to track what I eat and the results have been really promising so far.

  12. LisaVsTheLoans says

Good luck on the new workout goal! Running is still something I need to get used to haha

  13. CanadianBudgetB says

    Have a great weekend mate.

  14. Charles@gettingarichlife says

    Hi David,
I always forget that people pay thousands to come out here to Hawaii what I take for granted.  Go to Maui, write a few posts and it’s a business expense.

  15. DebtChronicles says

Like to see your running prowess growing DC…..we should go for a run sometime when up in your area for a weekend.  :)
