New York City Times Square
New York City – I’ve never been there, but it’s definitely on my list of places to visit.

Welcome to the Weekly Quick Hits Roundup! Every week I write a weekly wrap-up of things that were going on here at Young Adult Money, a few personal updates/thoughts, and finally a few posts I read this week that I thought were worth sharing.

We also have our giveaway roundup every Friday. This Friday there are over 200 giveaways listed that end today (9/13) through next Thursday (9/19).

Below are the posts from this week:

  • On Monday I shared 5 Reasons Blogging is the Ultimate Side Hustle. I truly believe that if you are looking to make income on top of working a full-time job that blogging can be one of the best options.
  • On Tuesday I shared 3 (More) Ways My Wife and I Save Money.
  • On Wednesday our staff writer Cat talked about what it means to be wealthy in Here’s My Definition of Wealth. What’s Yours?.
  • On Thursday I talked about careers in Career Crossroads – What are You Willing to Sacrifice?.

Update Time

  • Exercise – I started a new challenge through my work where the goal is to work out a minimum of 150 minutes a week. If you complete the challenge (I think it goes on for six weeks or something) you get entered into a drawing for a vacation for two. I already work out close to that, but I figure it can’t hurt to keep track of exactly how many minutes I exercise, plus you know I like giveaways ;)
  • Side Projects, Affiliate Income, and Balancing Time – So I now have three website ideas I am tossing around as my next move. Yes, I know I just said last week that I need to focus on Young Adult Money, and I still stand by that statement.

Allow me to explain, though. I have yet another sinus infection, which sucks but reminded me that I own an awesome domain that I bought a few years ago because I planned on using to start an allergy niche site. I’m pretty sure we all know someone who suffers from allergies, and there is a ton of content that can go along with it. But…I still had that “other” idea for a site that I want to start. So my strategy now is to write down content ideas, start looking into affiliate income (for those sites and this one) as well as what competition exists and how I can make my site(s) better than the competition. That way I can work on these new sites without actually starting them, which will make it a lot easier if I ever do start them.

  • 2 Year Anniversary – This weekend my wife and I are celebrating our two-year anniversary. It’s hard to believe it’s already been two years since our wedding. So much has happened since then, and the year or two leading up to our wedding was also a crazy busy time/season of our lives. I’m so lucky to have such a loving and supportive wife who puts up with me ;)

We are getting away for part of the weekend and I’m excited to relax and not worry about blogging, work, house projects, or anything else.

Posts of the Week:

  • Monica from Monica on Money shares 50 Ways To Become Debt Free.
  • Pauline from Reach Financial Independence tells you How I made $1,000s thanks to my mum.
  • Did you hear about Tonya’s new site? She just launched It Started with Lip Gloss. Check out one of her first posts on the site, I Suffer from Resting BitchFace Syndrome.
  • Tara from Streets Ahead Living talks about time off from work in All Work and No Play.
  • Holly from Club Thrifty tells you How to Get Freelance Writing Jobs.

What are your plans for the weekend? Do you keep track of your workouts? Anything you are particularly excited for this Fall? Did your team win last weekend (Vikings didn’t….)?

Final Note: If you haven’t already, please consider taking our short 8 question survey. Feedback from readers is extremely helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hey DC, have a great weekend and happy second year anniversary

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Samgill Thanks and hope you have a great weekend as well!

  2. Matt @ Mom and Dad Money says

Congrats on the anniversary! My wife and I just celebrated our own 2-year anniversary last weekend. It’s weird that it both feels like it was just yesterday we were getting married and like we’ve been married forever with all that’s happened in those two years. Hope you guys have a nice mini-vacation.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Matt @ Mom and Dad Money Thanks! Sounds like we got married about the same time.  I agree about feeling like yesterday and at the same time feeling like it’s been a LONG time.
Hope you have a great weekend!

  3. FrugalRules says

Congrats on the anniversary! Have fun on your getaway and make sure to unplug so you can enjoy it.  :)  I think it’ll be somewhat of a working weekend for me. I am busy trying to think up ideas for a second site as well…I must be crazy!  ;)

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

FrugalRules I think we are both crazy!  Why can’t we just be content with one site??? I definitely need a break so it should be nice.

  4. Holly at ClubThrifty says

Thanks for mentioning my post!  I hope you have a great weekend!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Holly at ClubThrifty No problem Holly!  Hope you have a great weekend as well!

  5. DebtRoundUp says

More side projects DC?  You are an animal.  I would think that an allergy site would have a ton of competition, but that hasn’t stopped me from doing something.  Congrats on the two year anniversary.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

DebtRoundUp Haha well there is a difference between “saying” and “doing.”  I need to actually launch the next site before I reach ‘animal’ status haha.  There is surprisingly little competition as far as allergy-targeted content sites go…unless something has drastically changed in the past year and a half (last time I did in-depth competitor research).

  6. Andrew LivingRichCheaply says

You should definitely come to New York City!  Happy Anniversary to you guys. Today is my wife and my 5th year anniversary.  This weekend is filled with wedding activities for my friend where I am the best man and I’ll be giving a toast in front of about 300 people…yay!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Andrew LivingRichCheaply Happy anniversary to you and your wife!  Best of luck with the speech!

  7. Beachbudget says

Happy Anniversary to you and the lady! I think that’s awesome your company is doing that. Is NY the trip they are giving away? Two birds with one stone? :) I use runkeeper, and also I track a bit using the #pfworkout hashtag to keep me somewhat accountable. I used to use gym pact but their program is pretty bad with bugs so I stopped. Hope you enjoy your weekend getaway and relax! Thanks for mentioning the article and new site!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Beachbudget The trip is not to New York so unfortunately can’t kill two birds with one stone.  No problem on the mention and thanks for letting me know about the various options for keeping track of my workouts!  Hope you have a great weekend!

  8. Monicaonmoney says

Thank for your mentioning my blog, DC! As always, I really appreciate your support, which is making blogging at MonicaOnMoney much more exciting and rewarding :)
Congrats on your 2 year anniversary, I hope you both have a wonderful weekend!!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Monicaonmoney  Hey no problem Monica!  Always happy to network and support with a fellow blogger.  Thanks and hope you have a great weekend as well!

  9. ayoungpro says

      ayoungpro Thanks Nick!

  10. LisaVsTheLoans says

You must visit NY, it’s amazing!
And happy anniversary to you and your wife!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

LisaVsTheLoans Thanks!  I definitely plan on making it to NYC.

  11. Eyesonthedollar says

Happy Anniversary! I hope it’s a great weekend.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Eyesonthedollar Thanks! Hope you have a great weekend as well.

  12. JourneytoSaving says

Aw, happy anniversary! I hope you two enjoy your little half weekend getaway. I wish my job would do something like that, I would totally be willing to participate. An allergy niche site sounds really interesting, but I hope your sinus infection clears up soon. My allergies were acting up a bit this week, too. Ugh!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

JourneytoSaving I think the past couple weeks were particularly bad, as I know many who have had allergies acting up.  My work is a huge corporation though so they can do something like this and have 80,000 employees participate which helps them justify giving away a trip haha.

  13. Suburban Finance says

I always have a thousand million website ideas floating around but nary the time to implement them. I have been to NYC, it’s beautiful – just don’t go in the stifling summer!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Suburban Finance Haha a thousand million is quite a few!  I suffer from not having enough time as well.  I’ll take your tip and try to avoid going there in the Summer.

  14. Eva @ Girl Counting Pennies says

What a beautiful photo of NYC. It’s number one on my list of places to visit. Thanks for sharing some great reads! Oh, and happy anniversary! :)

  15. Bsierra says

Davis, you have done such an amazing work. It is my dream place and enjoyed this read so much. Thanks for sharing this wonderful post.
