Welcome to the weekly Saturday Quick Hits and Weekend Reading post – Thanksgiving edition!

Quick Hits

  • Just wanted to give another reminder that the site is hosting it’s first ever giveaway which started last Wednesday. The grand prize is an iPad mini and $50 cash for a case. Four other entrants will get $25 each. Less than eleven days until it ends, so be sure you get your name in the hat.

  • Anyone else pumped for Thanksgiving next week? It’s one of my favorite holidays, and added bonus I have the entire week off of work next week! Unfortunately I got sick a couple days ago – hoping it passes since I have a ton of stuff planned for my time off.

  • Ladders are expensive! I got what I think is a relatively cheap oneand still paid over $150 for it. Actually, now that I think about it that’s not a terrible price for what I got, but all the expenses related to buying our first home are really starting to add up!

  • Anyone going black Friday shopping? I plan on looking at what Amazon.comhas to offer, but what I really am hoping for is that some store has a doorbuster deal on luggage. We are going on a cruise in February and my wife definitely needs luggage as hers got destroyed on our Hawaii trip a couple years ago and I have pretty much the cheapest (both price and material) luggage you could find.

  • In case you missed any posts from this week, here they are:

Monday: The Laffer Curve and the Fiscal Cliff
Tuesday: 5 Products that Fight Indoor Allergies
Wednesday: The Cost of Dog Ownership
Thursday: Choosing organizations to donate to: What do you factor in?
Friday: A Doctor turned Actor: Anyone can change careers

Weekend Reading

As usual, here are some posts from this week that I really enjoyed:

  • T.L. from Budget and the Beach is giving away a $20 Amazon gift card

  • Nate from Steward Your Money is diving into six blogs for the next 30 days – humbled that ours is one of them!

  • Justin from The Frugal Path talks saving money in Couponing 101: You Don’t Have to Be Extreme

  • Veronica from Blue Pelican Loans talks about one of my favorite things (formulas) in “Secret” Forumla for Living Comfortably

  • Last but not least…

  • John from Frugal Rules talks about two things I’m really interested in (large companies and economic policy) in Are Large Companies Immune to the Fiscal Cliff?

Hope you all have a great weekend, and to all the Americans out there I hope you are ready for Thanksgiving! *Gobble Gobble Gobble*

    Thank you for the mention.
Yes, ladders are expensive. My father in-law bought one of those all in one ladders for 250. The only problem with it is that it weighs a ton and he needs me to come over every time that he uses the thing.
And I can’t wait for Thanksgiving. Turkey is one of my favorite foods.
Have a great weekend and i hope you feel better.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

@JustinatTheFrugalPath Yikes you have to come over for him to even use it??  That sounds terrible.

Thanks, no sore throat when I woke up so that’s a start!

  2. FrugalRules says

Thanks so much for the mention DC.  Ladders are expensive, in fact I find that many things for the house are…but maybe I am showing my cheapness.  :)  Have a great weekend!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

@FrugalRules Haha all the expenses add up.  Especially since this is our first house, we’ve had to spend money on things like ladders that we didn’t have before becoming home owners.

  3. Money Life and More says

Ooo cruise! Enjoy! I went on my first one this year and I think iHeartBudgets did too. Make sure to read our posts to see all of the hidden costs!
