Welcome to the weekly Saturday Quick Hits and Weekend Reading post.

It’s Saturday and I have literally not left my apartment since Tuesday afternoon. I had sinus surgery on Tuesday (which wasn’t cheap but was well worth it) morning and have been recovering ever since. I’m a bit disappointed since the pain hasn’t really gone down since Tuesday and I have a wedding this Sunday afternoon…but hopefully the pain won’t be as bad then.

Quick Hits

  • So I’ve been updating every week the progress of this site on Alexa, which ranks websites across the globe. Last Saturday I was ranked at 465,967 and made a goal of getting under 400,000 by the end of September. Well I actually already broke 400,000 and at the time of this writing have a rank of 321,782. Looks like I have a new goal: Get under 300k asap.

  • Last week my wife started a four-part weekly series on Ways to be Healthy Without Breaking your Budget with her post Ways to Eat Healthy on a Budget. Her second post – Ways to Stay Fit on a Budget – was published this week.

  • I submitted my first article to a Personal Finance “Carnival” a couple weeks ago and was included in my very first Carnival on Monday. Nerd Wallet hosted the Carnival of Personal Finance and even listed my article as an Editor’s choice.

  • This week I shared How I Got 50,000+ Twitter Followers on my personal twitter account. If you are interested in gaining more followers on Twitter, be sure to check it out.

I think you should just bum that Alexa ranking goal down to 200k. You’ll make it soon enough. You’re already at 305k!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

@Money Life and More haha I didn’t realize I would be at 305k this morning, but I’m trying to be conservative here ;)

  2. Lbeemoneytree says

Yayyy! Thanks for including me :)

       @Lbeemoneytree No problem!

  3. Veronica @ Pelican on Money says

Thanks for mentioning my post! I’m pretty sure you’re going to meet the challenge’s goal, your blog is full of good readin’ :)

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

@Veronica @ Pelican on Money Hey no problem!   Thanks for the compliment, I do what I can to put quality stuff up every week.

  4. CanadianBudgetB says

Congrats on getting your Alexa score down mate and getting Editor’s Pick in a Carnival. I have never submitted to a carnival but I also don’t know the protocol. Maybe there is a post out there somewhere to tell me all about carnivals. Thanks for the mention this week mate, much appreciated! Cheers and keep up the great work. Mr.CBB

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

@CanadianBudgetB Thanks!  I found the Carnival of Personal Finance the easiest to submit to, here’s the site -> http://carnivalofpersonalfinance.com/

If you do find a good post about submitting to carnivals, send it my way as well!  I want to do it more but find it a bit confusing (or maybe just the process is annoying to me).

      Have a good weekend,

Thanks for including my post. You’re already down to 305k, I bet you’ll be well under 300k tomorrow!

  6. Eyesonthedollar says

I bet you’ll be under 200K by the end of the month. Carnivals are the one thing I forget to do. Thanks for the mention. If you are stil in pain tomorrow, just make sure the reception is open bar.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

@Eyesonthedollar That would be quite the drop!  I actually at the last minute decided I shouldn’t go to the wedding.  I was getting light-headed just getting ready for the wedding : /

  7. The Retired Landlord says

Thanks for the mention! Good luck with the alexa. Soon you’ll be so low that you don’t even pay attention to it. :)

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

@The Retired Landlord Hey no problem!  Thanks, tho I’m not QUITE as confident as you are ;)

  8. moneymatters says

    Thanks for the link love!

Congrats on the Alexa drop, that’s great!  In the end, however, alexa/page rank/etc don’t mean as much as having great content, and you’ve definitely got that. Keep up the great work!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

@moneymatters Thanks!  I agree that great content needs to be top priority, but it is nice to have clear numbers to hit in the form of Alexa rankings.

  9. One Cent at a Time says

The mroe you get involved with other bloggers, specially within Yakezie, where every one has a Alexa tool bar, your rank would continue to go down. Honored to be get a mention here, Have a nice rest of the weekend.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

@One Cent at a Time I think being part of Yakezie is a huge help in getting the Alexa rank down.  I don’t think it would drop nearly this quick if it wasn’t for Yakezie.

  10. GregatClubThrifty says

Thanks for the mention DC! We appreciate it!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

       @GregatClubThrifty No problem!

  11. Modest Money says

Thanks for the mention DC.  That sucks that you’re still in pain from your sinus surgery.  I hope you’re feeling better today.  Since you’re under 300k today, perhaps that will help a bit.

  12. seedebtrun says

Hope you were able to enjoy yourself at the wedding this weekend, DC!  Glad you got the surgery, though, as it really sounded like you needed it.  Thanks for mentioning Jefferson’s post…but please don’t encourage him to cry over the gadgets he can’t afford.  lol.  I kid.  Have a great week!
