Today I am going to tell you the easiest way to make money on twitter. But first a little background. I first got started on twitter three years ago (@DavidCarlson1). It was something new and different. I am incredibly blessed by all the connections I have made through my participation. I have a lot (a lot) more to say about Twitter, but today I want to share with you a relatively simple way to make money on Twitter through Sponsored Tweets.

Below is a screenshot from my Sponsored Tweets account:

Sponsored Tweets is very simple. All you need is a Twitter account, though there are some minimum targets you must reach in order to show up in the advertiser database.

Your account must have:

– At least 50 Followers
– At least 100 Tweets
– Twitter Account of at least 60 days old

Ideally you would be well beyond these minimums as you are competing for offers with some very well established accounts. If you currently do not have a Twitter account, consider joining now and signing up for Sponsored Tweets later on down the road.

To get started: Essentially all you have to do is sign up, fill out your profile, and wait for advertisers to send you offers. If you have an established Twitter account you should be able to get offers. Consider setting it much lower than the “suggested” charge price. I charge only $3.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • You will not get rich through Sponsored Tweets
  • You should not tweet solely because you can make money on Sponsored Tweets
  • You may go months (and months) without getting a sponsored tweet, then get 3 in the same day. It’s completely random. I have gone three or four months without getting a sponsored tweet.

Money you receive from Sponsored Tweets should be viewed as something “extra” that you get for doing something you would do for free anyway.

If you counted all the hours I spent on Twitter the past three years and divided that by the $221 that I have made on Sponsored Tweets, it would hardly justify the time I invested into Twitter. Nevertheless, getting paid $3-$4 to simply tweet something isn’t a bad return. It’s better than zero.

Disclosure: While I get zero dollars for writing this post, I do get a small (tiny, actually) amount of money if you sign up through my affiliate link. Okay, I’ll be honest: I get about .10 every time someone I referred gets a sponsored tweet. It’s really kind of pathetic…but it’s still better than zero ;)

That’s legit, sir! I signed up! I’m always exited to learn Twitter Tips from ya! Do you have a Pro account or just regular? And when did you start using sponsored tweets?

@JordanObinger I’m glad you signed up!  Since you used my referral I have some serious motivation to help you make your account even more valuable ;)

I use the regular, I don’t see much benefit in going Pro, but maybe one day.  I started using it over two years ago.  The offers can be random.  I just got my first one today in about 3 weeks.  Sometimes I get five offers in one week and then none for a month and a half.  Sometimes I adjust my rate if I haven’t gotten one for very long.  Anyway it buys me some Caribou, which I am sure you are thrilled to hear I am currently consuming :D

My coworker and I were just debating purchasing sponsored tweets for our businesses. I’m glad to know how it works on the other side!
