Thailand
Thailand – definitely on my travel bucket list.

Welcome to the Weekly Quick Hits Roundup! Every week I write a weekly wrap-up of things that were going on here at Young Adult Money, a few personal updates/thoughts, and finally a few posts I read this week that I thought were worth sharing.

We also have our giveaway roundup every Friday. This Friday there are over 200 giveaways listed that end today (10/18) through next Thursday (10/24).

Below are the posts we published this week:

  • On Monday we announced an exclusive giveaway on our site: $200 in Discover Gift Cards. This giveaway ends on October 27th – good luck!
  • On Tuesday Sally shared about The Day I Realized I Was Expensive. I think we all have a moment where we finally “get it” and realize just how expensive life is.

  • On Wednesday Cat shared How To Rock a Minimalist Wardrobe At Work.
  • On Thursday I reviewed Futurebuck in Increasing Financial Literacy for Young Adults – Futurebuck Review It’s great to see organizations that are focusing specifically on increasing the financial literacy of the 18-24 year-old demographic.
  • I also had a guest post on Pauline’s blog, Make Money Your Way, as a part of her side hustle series. I talked about How I Make Money Entering Giveaways.

Update Time

  • FinCon – Many of my friends who own or write on personal finance blogs/websites are at a conference right now called FinCon. I unfortunately did not make it this year, and have to admit I’m pretty jealous seeing some of the tweets from people who are attending. I hope you all have a great time!
  • Weekend – I have a four day weekend this weekend, and it was definitely needed. Yesterday I got a lot done around the house as well as got some yard work done. Today my wife is getting her wisdom teeth out and we will just be relaxing at home. I have a massive to do list, which might conflict with the whole “relaxing” plan, but it’ll be nice to get ahead on the blog and some other stuff I have put off for far too long.

Posts of the Week:

If you want to see your post included in this roundup, comment on posts on Young Adult Money throughout the week – that’s where I find blogs/posts to include.

  • Kali from Common Sense Millennial talked weddings in How to Have a Fun, Fabulous, and Frugal Wedding. If you are interested in another post about weddings & finances (specifically saving money), my wife wrote a post about this topic a long time back – 7 Ways to save money on a wedding.
  • Shannon from The Heavy Purse shared Five Smart Fall Money Moves. I agree 100% with these – do them!
  • Grayson from Debt Roundup shared an important review in Empire Today – Do They Make The Grade?. I’ve heard bad things about Empire Today, so I’m really glad Grayson shared his experience with everyone.
  • E.M. from Journey to Saving shared her Thoughts On Having Children. This post was simply awesome. No one should feel bad for not wanting to have kids!
  • Alexa from Single Mom Income talks about her view of Obamacare in Health Care Reform: A Single Moms Perspective on Obamacare.I love posts about health care reform and different opinions people have on it. Thanks for sharing your perspective, Alexa!

____________
Anything fun planned for the weekend? What’s the funnest thing you’ve done this Fall so far? Have you been to Thailand or want to go to Thailand at some point?

  1. Clarisse @ Make Money Your Way says

Thanks for guest posting on Make Money Your Way David! This weekend I’m planning to redesign my “little” home office and this Sunday me and my daughter will attend a children’s party it takes one hour to travel or having a Swedish massage with my mom.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Clarisse @ Make Money Your Way No problem, it was a lot of fun!  I was surprised at the nearly unanimous positive comments!  That sounds like a great weekend, enjoy!

  2. moneystepper says

I have never really had a desire to visit Thailand, but having been in Shanghai for a week, I’m much more interested in visiting more of this part of the world!!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

moneystepper I have some friends going to Thailand in just a couple weeks here.  Almost went with but the finances and timing wasn’t there.  That’s very cool that you were in Shaghai for a week as that is another place I wouldn’t mind visiting.

  3. CSMillennial says

Thanks so much for sharing my post! I feel quite honored to be up there :D This weekend I think we’re planning on taking advantage of some sunny weather (it’s been a bit rainy and cloudy this week) and hitting the trails for a long bike ride. Hope you guys have an excellent weekend!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

CSMillennial Haha thanks for the kind words, and I like to list good posts and yours definitely was a good one!  A bike ride sounds like fun, I don’t think we’ll be able to leave the house much, at least not my wife, as she recovers.

  4. JourneytoSaving says

I had to cringe when I read your wife is getting her wisdom teeth out. I hope it all goes okay! I am hoping to get up to the mountains this weekend to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday, but all the hotels in the area are booked, so we may travel there and wing it. I want to enjoy some nice fall scenery. Thanks for including my post, and have a great weekend!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

JourneytoSaving She just went back and I’m sitting here blogging away, I’m sure it’ll go just fine.  Recovery is just an annoying one…I remember wondering when my mouth would be 100%, felt like it took a long time.
The mountains sound great!  Happy birthday to your boyfriend and it sounds like a good time.

  5. DebtRoundUp says

I am also jealous of the FinCon tweets. I had all of my plans, but had to change them last minute to travel for work. Thanks for mentioning my empire today post. I hope it helps out others.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

DebtRoundUp No problem about the Empire mention.  There needs to be more posts like this.  I should really write up a full post about my awful experience with Roto Rooter and how they almost cost me $7,000+ that I didn’t need to spend.

  6. Brian @ Luke1428 says

Seems quiet today around the blog world with so many people at FinCon. Sounds like a fun event I’d like to attend. My wife and oldest son are running in their first 5k tomorrow morning so I will be out supporting them. Have a great weekend DC!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Brian @ Luke1428 Sounds like fun, best of luck to them.  Hope you have a great weekend as well!

  7. PlungedinDebt says

Have a great weekend DC. Hope the wife has a fast recovery!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

PlungedinDebt Thanks! I’m hoping she does too.  It’s not fun recovering from wisdom teeth surgery.

  8. ayoungpro says

I share your jealousy of the FinCon attendees.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

      ayoungpro How can you not?!?

  9. TheHeavyPurse says

Thanks for the mention, DC! I really appreciate it! :) I’ve been jealous of the FinCon tweets too. Hopefully, next year I’ll make it. Hopefully you’ll get some relaxing time during your 4 day weekend! Those massive to-do lists are always such a pain. :) Have a great weekend!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

TheHeavyPurse No problem!  I can’t complain about my weekend, though, as my wife is the one who is suffering in her wisdom teeth recovery : /

  10. KyleJames1 says

FinCon would be great, I def want to make it next year. I thought I saw somewhere that some of the talks are being streamed live…am I dreaming that? Have a great weekend and enjoy your time off!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

KyleJames1 They have had an online pass for a couple years now, I think.  I am opting out of that as well, though, because I just have too much on my plate.  Hope you have a good weekend as well!

  11. brokeandbeau says

I couldn’t make it to FinCon either, but I am meeting up with some other NYC bloggers who couldn’t go, for my first ever face to face blogger hang out.  I’m super psyched!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

brokeandbeau That’s so awesome!  We had a couple of meetups here in Minnesota over the past year and I really hope we have another one soon after FinCon.

  12. MicrosMissions says

Given my late entry this year into the whole blogging world, going to a conference felt like too big a step for me.  Maybe if I’m still at this next year, I’ll consider going down there.  From what I have seen on twitter though, it sounds like a pretty fun time.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

MicrosMissions That was the same position I was in last year, and even this year it was a borderline decision.  I think next year I will (hopefully) have grown the blog enough to justify taking a weekend off to network and learn a few things.

  13. BrentVosa says

Great round up!  I hope to see you at FinCon next year as I’ve penciled it in my schedule :).
