Welcome to the weekly Saturday Quick Hits and Weekend Reading post!

What a week it’s been! I’m completely drained because work was a bit hectic as we were down a person and I was doing some new processes for the first time, but it’s the weekend so all is well :)

Quick Hits

  • The site is hosting it’s first ever giveaway which started on Wednesday. It’s not too late to enter! The grand prize is an iPad mini and $50 cash for a case. Four other entrants will get $25 each.

  • I was sad to see my Congressional and Senate candidates get beaten so badly, but they were running in races that literally no Republican has a chance of winning. I heard a political scientist on the radio today saying that campaigns themselves have little effect on an elections, that it is the macro-scale trends that decide elections. As a former political scientist major I am definitely intrigued.

  • Was looking at my calendar and saw that I really only have five more weeks of work before my Christmas Staycation. Crazy how fast the year has gone by.

  • In case you missed any posts from this week, here they are:

Monday: What I Care About In This Election
Tuesday: How To Get A House Ready For Sale
Wednesday: Giveaway: iPad Mini + iPad Mini Case + $100
    Thursday: 7 Home Upgrades I Want…Someday ;)
Friday: 5 things that are more important than money

Weekend Reading

As usual, here are some posts from this week that I really enjoyed:

  • Peter from Bible Money Matters helps you save money on traveling in Hotels Too Expensive? Try These 6 Cheap Lodging Options

  • The Other Guy from Average Joe’s Money BLog gives their post-election commentary in A Look Into the Post-Election Crystal Ball

  • Pauline from Reach Financial Independence helps you make money while you travel in Earn money while traveling? (part 2)

  • Glen from Monster Piggy Bank shares 6 easy money SAVING tips

  • Sicorra from Tackling Our Debt shares some great tips about productivity in 10 Ways to Boost Your Productivity

Hope you all have a great weekend!

  1. RFIndependence says

Thanks for the mention. Are you guys getting some rest this weekend or working on the house?

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

@RFIndependence My wife has her second standardized exam for her grad school apps (this time a subject matter test) so she is doing that now and I’m at the coffee shop until she’s done closer to noon.  But after that we will do some stuff around the house then out for a friend’s bday.  How about you??

      • RFIndependence says

@DC @ Young Adult Money spent yesterday thatching my deck’s roof, every part of my body hurts. Hiding in bed from the workers who are building my entrance wall so they don’t think I am a lazy lady. Can’t add to their macho stereotype of useless women any more!

        • DC @ Young Adult Money says

@RFIndependence  Hey you’ve been working hard, you deserve a break!

  2. Money Life and More says

Stinks that work was so busy but I’m glad you made it to the weekend! Oh, and your alexa is under 100k! Celebrate!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

@Money Life and More Oh dang you are right!  I wonder if it will get any lower it has really slowed down the descent.

      • Modest Money says

The descent does slow down a lot the lower you get.  Getting under 100k is a big accomplishment though.  My goal is to get under 30k by the end of the year, but just getting the 3k to get there will be a challenge.

  3. Money Life and More says

    I’m stuck around 78k

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

@Money Life and More Not bad!  Those carnivals probably helped you out quite a bit.  I still have only participated in a couple haha.

  4. SenseofCents says

Christmas staycations are nice! I still can’t believe that it’s already November.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

@SenseofCents I know the year is almost over!  I couldn’t believe it when I looked at my calendar.  I might take 3 pto days the week of Thanksgiving and I would only work 4 more weeks in 2012.  Hard to believe!

  5. TacklingOurDebt says

Thank you very much for the include!! The year has gone by fast! To me it seems that the older I get the faster time seems to fly by. Every year on my birthday I complain to my father that I don’t want to get any older and he reminds me of when I was 12 and apparently all I kept talking about was all the stuff I would get to do when I turned 18 and how I couldn’t wait. He said he told me then not to wish my life away and now many years later, he jokes with “see, told you so”.

  6. MonsterPiggyBank says

Hey DC, thanks for including my site in your weekly round up, I really appreciate it.

Sucks that you’re super busy at work. About 3 months ago, my team and I went through a period of being crazy busy at work, now its the complete opposite. I find that most days I could probably go home early due to the lack of work.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

@MonsterPiggyBank Which do you prefer? The crazy time or the slow time?  I have a love/hate relationship with both!

      • MonsterPiggyBank says

@DC @ Young Adult Money I don’t really like either. I prefer a balance of having enough work to do without being neither busy nor bored.
