Linq VegasA pic of one of the pods on Las Vegas’ super-ferris wheel, the LINQ is our pic of the week.

Each pod on the ferris wheel can hold up to 40 individuals. It cost $550 million to build the ferris wheel and adjoining entertainment district.

Welcome to the Weekly Quick Hits Roundup!

If you’re new here, every week I write a weekly wrap-up of things that were going on here at Young Adult Money, a few personal updates/thoughts, and finally a few posts I read this week that I thought were worth sharing.

If you don’t already, please considering Following us on Twitter, Liking us on Facebook, and Following us on Pinterest.

We also have our giveaway roundup every Friday. This Friday there are 70 giveaways listed this week that end today (10/3) through next Thursday (10/9).

Happy Friday everyone!

Hope you all had a great week. It’s starting to cool down here in Minnesota. Hopefully it stays mild, though, as October can be a relatively “warm” month. Here’s some random thoughts I’ve had this week:

  • My first non-personal finance post in years – As some of you know, I was a political blogger in another life. Okay, not another life, but it’s been a few years since I’ve written about anything other than personal finance. Well, last weekend I sat down and finally wrote a post for a non personal-finance website.

My friend owns The DFS Report, which is essentially a website about daily fantasy sports. I wrote about 3 things I learned in my first 4 weeks of DFS. I’ll be writing on his site periodically.

  • Freelance Writing – Just wanted to throw this out there: I’m looking for more freelance writing jobs. I’m looking to add 3 additional weekly contributor roles by the end of the year. I currently only have 1 client, but I have also turned down quite a few over the past year. If you know of any websites that are looking for contributors, please consider sending my information their way. Here’s my contact page. Yes I realize it doesn’t say anything about freelance writing services, but my email is on there and I can fill in whoever is interested via email.
  • New Writer – I’m happy to announce that Erin from Journey to Saving has agreed to come on as a regular contributor. She’s a great writer and provides valuable content, so I hope you will stop by on Wednesdays and check out her posts.

That’s about all I have going on. I could go on and on about fantasy football, the Vikings, the Gophers, etc. but I’ll spare you this week ;)

I have a wedding this weekend and my wife is the personal attendant, so that will take up almost all of her weekend and a good portion of mine. This couple re-connected at our housewarming party and I’m really happy for them!

Below are the posts we published this week:

  • On Monday I compared two of the lowest priced no-contract unlimited cell plans in Republic Wireless or Walmart Family Mobile?
  • On Tuesday Erin shared 4 Ways to Avoid Being Pressured to Spend at Work
  • On Wednesday I explained 7 Things You Can Outsource to Save Time

Posts of the Week:

As usual, here are 5 posts that I enjoyed this week from around the blogosphere.

Want to be featured? I pick blogs that comment on the site regularly, so stop by and leave a comment!

  • Kirsten from Indebted Mom had to say goodbye to her pup. Having seen a pet get elderly and die from a cancerous tumor myself, this post really stuck with me. Live Like They are Dying
  • Michelle from Making Sense of Cents responded to a readers question in Should I Ruin My Retirement By Helping My Child Through College?
  • Pauline from Reach Financial Independence gave an update on her projects (and life) in Guatemala in Little house in Guatemala, month 20
  • John from Frugal Rules did some comparison shopping for us in Amazon Prime vs Walmart – Who Has the Better Deal?
  • Mrs. Frugal Woods from Frugal Woods had another funny pet interview in Frugal Hound Sniffs: Planting Our Pennies

____________

What has been on your mind this week? What do you have planned this weekend? Are you enjoying Fall or suffering from allergies like my wife and me?

Thank you so much for including Frugal Hound’s interview with Kitty PoP! Very serious journalism we do over at Frugalwoods :). I’m excited that Erin will be contributing every week–looking forward to her posts! Hope you have a great time at the wedding this weekend!

  2. Clarisse @ Make Money Your Way says

Hi DC, thanks a lot for including Pauline’s post! Glad to know that Erin from Journey to Saving has agreed to come on as a regular contributor to your site!

  3. RFIndependence says

Wow that is one expensive will. I went up a similar one in London, it is nice to be with other people and they even can put a bar in the middle and cater for events, but it moves so slow you just feel like you’re looking outside a building window. Btw I think your site got scraped http://www.yourpersonalfinancetips.com/?p=544

  4. blonde_finance says

Yay I am excited that Erin will be writing for you!! I can’t wait to see what she has to say on your site. This morning was the first really cool morning of Fall here and I loved it. I am hosting a book launch party at my house this weekend and some of my great friends are going to be there, so I am looking forward to catching up with them. I hope you have an awesome weekend!

  5. theFinancegirl says

Congrats on hiring Erin! And congrats on your fantasy post – my boyfriend is going to love this.. Have a great weekend!

  6. DebtDiscipline says

I’ll be helping my children with their Cos-play costumes for next weeks NYC comic con. Enjoy the weekend!

  7. brokeandbeau says

It’s cooled down in NYC the perfect amount.  I just don’t want it to get any colder! haha

  8. FrugalRules says

Congrats on hiring Erin! Congrats on your other gig as well. I’ve been looking for some more writing myself and got a couple new gigs this week so I’m excited about that. My wife and I are going down for the K-State/Texas Tech game tomorrow so we’re looking forward to that. My younger brother will be watching the kids all day for us though, so there’s a distinct chance the house will be a mess when we get back, lol. Thanks much for the mention DC, have a great weekend!

  9. JourneytoSaving says

That is so cute the couple reconnected at your housewarming party! I hope you have fun at the wedding. That’s really neat your friend owns a fantasy football site – perfect opportunity for you to write about that. Thanks again for bringing me on!

  10. SenseofCents says

Thank you so much for the mention! I’m excited to read Erin’s posts here, I love her writing.

  11. Eyesonthedollar says

I’ll miss Cat, but I really like Erin, so great job on that one. Congrats on your sports blogging gig. It must be fun not to have to relate everything to money.

  12. Beachbudget says

Good choice hiring Erin! Looking forward to reading her stuff on here!

  13. indebtedmom says

So excited to have Erin joining you. She does great work and is one of my favorite bloggers. And thanks again for sharing my post here. I wrote it quickly so I wouldn’t think too much and I’m really surprised that folks seemed to connect with it. At the same time, it makes sense – many of us have or have had pets as part of our families.

  14. debt debs says

Looking forward to reading Erin’s posts on here.  Great fit!

  15. debt debs says

RFIndependence What does scraped mean?  I noticed that I get pingbacks from this other site whenever DC links to one of my posts but I thought it was some other site he had set up.  Didn’t really understand it.  Can anyone elaborate?  I feel kind of stupid now not bringing it to anyone’s attention if there is something remiss here.  #stilllearning

  16. mycareercrusade says

Shame about the colder weather, never been a fan of that myself.. In my ideal world I’d stay in a warm climate 12 months of the year :)
How’d that wedding go for you anyway? Congrats on the freelance writing or at least reaching out to do that.. Any suggestions on how to get feedback on the content or way the article is writen or is it simply about practice, practice, practice?

  17. RFIndependence says

debt debs it means someone is publishing your posts as their own. if you check the website it just has some articles from other people but with a different URL and theme.

  18. debt debs says

RFIndependence debt debs What can be done about that then?  Should I delete all the pingbacks I have from that site?
