Today I wanted to share with you an infographic my friend Kyle at Rather-Be-Shopping.com put together about Mother’s Day. Since I’m all about the money, the things that caught my eye were how much is spent on Mother’s Day.
In 2009, an average of $123.89 was spent on Mom. In 2012, that figure crept up to $152.52. That’s an increase of 19%. While I certainly think that Moms deserve to have money spent on them, it’s also crazy how much money we spend on Holidays.
Some other figures that jumped out at me is that $671 Million is spent on greeting cards each year. While this is obviously not just money spent on Mother’s Day cards, it’s crazy to think how much we spend on birthday and holiday cards. Hallmark has quite the business going on!
This Sunday I will be spending some time with my family, since Mother’s Day is one of my Mom’s favorite holidays. She works very hard (and has her whole life) and I can honestly say she, along with my Dad, have been my inspiration for always valuing a good work ethic.
I know many of the readers of this blog are Mothers themselves. I hope you are able to find some time to relax and your kids get you something nice!
I want to be sensitive to everyone who does not celebrate Mother’s Day and I’m not ignorant of the fact that some people do not know their Mother or do not have a relationship for one reason or another.

Haha these statistics are great and kind of surprising. I think too many people just try to buy their mom a gift and greeting card when their mom would probably rather their child spend time with them. For example, I didn’t buy my mom anything this year, but we did have my family over for a Mother’s Day dinner on Friday. The dinner didn’t cost us much extra, but I know my mom enjoyed that way more than any gift.
