Profile Pic ResizedA lot of bloggers have been writing 20 random things about me posts, so I thought I would as well.

Today’s not just any day, though.

See the first and second “random things” about me to find out why.

1) Today – July 1st – is my birthday!

2) Young Adult Money turns 2 years old today. Here is my first post ever from July 1st, 2012.

3) I used to be a political blogger before I was a personal finance blogger.

4) I’m a Christian.

5) I met my wife on a mission trip to Juarez, Mexico.

6) I have been married for nearly 3 years.

7) I work in the health care industry.

8) I contribute once a week to the FeeX blog. You can see all my posts here. They are currently my only freelance client but I wouldn’t mind adding more in the future.

9) I nearly died from asthma when I was in first grade. I was in the hospital for a week, a majority time in the ICU. Kirby Puckett visited me, so I thought that was pretty cool.

10) One day, during the 2008 Presidential campaign, I Googled “Ron Paul.” It drastically changed my political and economic views.

11) I used to want to be a cartoonist and was pretty good at drawing. Instead I pursued more practical things and now work in corporate finance.

12) I’ve seen the band Incubus perform in 3 different states – Minnesota, Illinois, and Missouri.

13) I was 18 when I first flew in an airplane.

14) My favorite place to vacation is Hawaii. Beautiful place. Not cheap to get there, or to stay there, unfortunately.

15) I once turned $8 into $2,200 at the casino, playing blackjack.

16) I used to play a ton of poker – both online and at the casino – but I have barely played the past couple years.

17) My ideal job would be owning and running a fast-growing startup.

18) I’ve started numerous websites and business, most of which have been unsuccessful. You can read about 5 of them here.

19) I’m an introvert and need alone time to re-charge.

20) My favorite book is Atlas Shrugged.

And that’s it! Hope you guys have a great day and hopefully you enjoyed getting to know me better.

    Happy Birthday!!! And happy blogiversary!
That is so cool you met your wife on a mission trip. I met my husband at church – we attended together for a year before dating so I can happily tease that church is the best place to “pick-up” your significant other.

  2. Thomas at ineedmoneyASAP says

Happy birthday! I love these posts. So interesting! I’m also an introvert and totally appreciate the need for “alone time” to recharge. Sometimes people see it as antisocial but I just can’t “hang out” all day, I need a few hours alone.
    Anyways, nice post.
Hope you have a great day!

  3. DC @ Young Adult Money says

indebtedmom Thanks! I can second that!  I guess I “technically” had met her before, but hadn’t started talking and becoming friends until that trip.  It’s just a lot more fun to say we met in Juarez ;)

  4. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Thomas at ineedmoneyASAP Thanks!  Extroverts will never understand haha.  It is what it is.

  5. DebtChronicles says

Happy B-day DC!  I’m totally with you on #19……I love my friends and family, but late night alone time to recharge ROCKS!

  6. FrugalRules says

Happy Birthday…on both counts! In regards to #11, my wife always wanted to be a cartoonist or do something somewhat similar and work for Disney. She was that way almost until she hit college. I’m an introvert as well. I love spending time with friends and family, but I definitely need time to recharge after that.

  7. blonde_finance says

Wow DC, I never knew you had such a gambling problem. :-) Seriously, though, Happy Birthday and Happy Blogiversary!!! I love these types of posts, as you know, I did one myself. And my political perspective changed when I took an online quiz and it told me I was a libertarian. It is what I am, if only it was a “mainstream” political party.

  8. Laurie TheFrugalFarmer says

Happy birthday, DC!!  My bday is in a few days as well. :-)  Very cool about Kirby visiting you in the hospital, and so glad you survived that dangerous asthma attack!!!  My second born definitely needs time to be alone and recharge too, so I totally get that.  Thanks for sharing, DC, and have a great day. :-)

  9. TheWriteBudget says

Happy Birthday! Hope you have a great week celebrating :)

  10. Andrew LivingRichCheaply says

Happy Birthday!  Wow, $8 to $2200…good thing you didn’t get addicted.  I once started off with $60, lost most of it, made it back to $60 and left the table…only to be pressured to get back in by my friends.  I promptly lost the $60.  Yea I don’t gamble.  Hawaii is expensive but not too bad when you travel hack…or win a the sweepstakes!  How long was your mission trip to Juarez?  How’s your Spanish?  I went to Mexico (Baja peninsula) for a month for a Rotary exchange program…definitely interesting when you live in a different country among the locals for an extended time.

  11. Beachbudget says

Happy Birthday! And happy 2nd blogiversary! I think what surprised me is this blog is only 2. I thought it was around for much longer. I also LOVE everything about Hawaii. I have a favorite lotion that isn’t frugal but is island-made that I buy because it reminds me of being there.

  12. Holly at ClubThrifty says

Happy birthday and Blogiversary!  That’s cute that you met your wife on a mission trip =)

  13. Raquel@Practical Cents says

Happy Birthday and congrats on you blog anniversary!  I was surprised that you play poker.  It’s  a very risky way to make or lose money but sounds like your are very good at it.

I like 1st day of the month events.  I’m also a 1st baby, August 1st.  My wedding date is also on June 1st. Ha! ;)

  14. JourneytoSaving says

Happy Birthday and Happy Blogiversary! I hope you have something fun planned! I’m glad you made it out of that asthma episode. I had a few visits to the hospital when I was younger as well. I definitely need my alone time, otherwise I get overwhelmed. I think I was 16 when I first flew on an airplane. I was so scared, my mom (a seasoned flier) was rolling her eyes at me the entire time.

  15. DC @ Young Adult Money says

DebtChronicles Thanks Travis! I definitely need my time to myself to recharge.

  16. DC @ Young Adult Money says

FrugalRules Thanks John!  Your wife must have been really into art.  I have some friends who really pursued art in high school and one or two that continued in college.  Unfortunately(?) I don’t know any who make a full-time income from it.

  17. DC @ Young Adult Money says

blonde_finance I enjoyed your ‘random thing’ post and I think it was your post that made me finally want to do one myself!  Glad to meet another libertarian :)

  18. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Laurie TheFrugalFarmer Happy early Bday to you, Laurie!  Hope you have a great day as well.

  19. DC @ Young Adult Money says

TheWriteBudget Thanks!  Hope you have a great week as well!

  20. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Andrew LivingRichCheaply We were in Juarez for a week and despite taking Spanish my entire life (all the way through college), I can barely speak a word of it haha.  Mexico is definitely an interesting place.  You’re lucky to only have lost $60. In poker I’m up over my “lifetime” of play, but blackjack is probably much closer to even since it’s an up and down game.  I’m probably still up from the big win but I’m sure those winnings will dwindle over time.

  21. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Beachbudget Thanks!  If I could I would totally go to Hawaii every single year.  I think that’s a big compliment to hear that you thought the blog was more than 2 years old!

  22. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Holly at ClubThrifty Thanks Holly!  Yes, it’s our favorite story!

  23. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Raquel@Practical Cents Thanks! I am good enough at poker to essentially break even over time haha.  The level of skill and knowledge has drastically improved in the poker world so it’s harder to win, hence why I don’t play as much (among other reasons).  1st is the best!

  24. SenseofCents says

Happy birthday and congrats on 2 years with your awesome blog! Wow turning $8 into $2,200 is awesome!

  25. Ugifter says

Haha, you’re even more economically right wing than I thought you were! This was fun, maybe one day I’ll do something like it.  Happy Canada, errr, birthday!  I hope you get up to something fun.

  26. ShannonRyan says

Happy Birthday and Blogiversary, DC! I did not you that you could draw and turning $8 into $2200 is quite the achievement! I am an extrovert but I also need alone time too. And thank goodness you won a trip to one of your favorite places – makes it even sweeter. :)

  27. Debtbustingchick says

Happy birthday to you and your blog. How interesting that you used to be a political blogger and at you’re good at art. Thanks for sharing, I love to hear more about bloggers.

  28. BudgetforMore says

Happy Birthday, DC! What did you do with your big poker winnings? I’ve tried playing poker a handful of times but just haven’t been very good at it. I do enjoy playing card games though : ) Any fun plans for your birthday?

  29. DC @ Young Adult Money says

JourneytoSaving Thanks! Haha yeah the first flight was interesting for sure.

  30. DC @ Young Adult Money says

SenseofCents Thanks Michelle!  Yeah it was quite a night, one I won’t forget that’s for sure.

  31. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Ugifter You should do a post like it!  And yes, I’m very libertarian : )

  32. DC @ Young Adult Money says

ShannonRyan Thanks! The win definitely was huge – both the trip and the $2,200!

  33. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Debtbustingchick Thanks!  Would love to see a “20 random things” post up on your site as well!

  34. DC @ Young Adult Money says

BudgetforMore Well, the $8 to $2,200 was at blackjack.  I won at poker, but never huge.  No big plans at this time : /  Kind of a busy week but hopefully will get to do something fun this weekend.

  35. Charles@gettingarichlife says

David happy birthday. When is your trip to Hawaii that you won. Let me know if you want to know about places to go.

  36. Eyesonthedollar says

Happy Birthday to you and YAM! I love that so many PF bloggers are introverts. Hope you did something fun today.

  37. Jason @ The Butler Journal says

Happy Birthday and Bloggerversary! That’s pretty cool that Kirby Puckett came to visit you. Great post.

  38. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Charles@gettingarichlife HI Charles we will be headed there in January, which is a perfect time for people from Minnesota!  I’ll shoot you an email when we start planning what we’ll be doing.  I know my wife will want to find some good snorkeling spots.  Maybe see a good waterfall? We only have a week so have to be a bit selective.

  39. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Eyesonthedollar Thanks Kim!  I did do something fun – watch the US Soccer game, even though I wasn’t happy with the result : /  But still a good day.

  40. DC @ Young Adult Money says

Jason @ The Butler Journal Thanks!  Kirby was a “hero” of mine growing up.  A true Minnesota legend.

  41. debt debs says

Many happy returns on both counts! Was your blog a birthday gift to yourself?  I would love to see some of your cartoons featured on your blog!  Seems like you’ve got some additional side hustles potentially – cartooning and gambling -or did you quit because you had some losses along with those gains?

  42. NewlywedsBudget says

im impressed that you’ve been able to start so many websites! even if they haven’t all been successful, it’s still good that you’re able to keep going!

  43. LisaVsTheLoans says

Happy belated birthday, my friend! Introverted Christians, unite! :)
