New Home Pool
Newest addition to our home! Just kidding, I can dream tho, right?

Welcome to the Weekly Quick Hits Roundup! Every week I write a weekly wrap-up of things that were going on here at Young Adult Money, a few personal updates/thoughts, and finally a few posts I read this week that I thought were worth sharing.

We also have our giveaway roundup every Friday. This Friday there are over 100 giveaways listed that end today through next Thursday.

Below are the posts from Monday through Thursday:

  • On Monday I discussed careers and career development in 5 Ways Young Professionals can Take Control of their Career. Young adults start their career with ambition, excitement, and hope for the future. Unfortunately, sometimes your job/work/career isn’t all it’s cracked up to be and to keep yourself motivated and moving forward you need to take control of your career.
  • On Tuesday I wrote about my wife and my plan to Funding Travel through Winning Giveaways. This definitely something a little “out of the ordinary,” but after winning in excess of $1,000 and starting the process of converting winnings into cash, we decided it was worth a shot. Ironically, soon after deciding this, I found out that we may be going to Costa Rica sometime in the near future. Better start entering more giveaways!
  • On Wednesday our staff writer Cat shared about student loans in Student Loans: My Biggest Financial Mistake. This is definitely a HUGE topic for those in their 20s and 30s.
  • Speaking of giveaways, on Thursday we launched one with our post My Dream Vacation $900 Cash Giveaway That’s right, $900 of cash up for grabs!

I have just a couple of updates to share:

  • Site Redesign – I feel really bad for my designer. He sent the contract almost two weeks ago along with a questionnaire to help him get a better idea of what I’m looking for. Unfortunately I haven’t had time to look at it. I definitely need to get this done asap so he can start working! On a side note, if anyone wants to know what designers I got quotes from shoot me an email. All four seemed to be solid choices and I had a very hard time choosing who to go with.
  • Weekend – This weekend I have quite a bit going on. I have been so busy with so many different things unfortunately dates get dropped off. Saturday I hope to get working on our studio apartment rental as we have a new renter moving in as the last one just moved out. I also have a bachelor party that night, which should be a ton of fun. Finally, I am going to the Twins game with my family on Sunday, including my grandpa who is the biggest Twins fan I know.

Finally, here are five posts that I really enjoyed from this week:

  • Jake from Common Cents Wealth shares some advice on moving in What to Consider When You’re Thinking About Moving.
  • Cat from Budget Blonde gets on a soapbox in Soapbox Time: Medical School & 6 Figure Loans.
  • Glen from Monster Piggy Bank shares Super Cheap Hobbies for People on a Budget.
  • Alexa from Single Moms Income tells you How to Become a Virtual Assistant.
  • Tara from Streets Ahead Living shows the power of positive thinking in Life Works Itself Out.

How was your week? Any high or low points you care to share? What are your plans for the weekend?

Have fun at the Twins game this weekend…Go Cubs :-)

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

OneSmartDollarHaha!  Gosh I wish the Twins were competitive again….they used to be in the race every year.

  2. Laurie TheFrugalFarmer says

Hey, DC!  Sounds like a fun weekend!  My mom and brother just hit the Twins game a couple of weeks ago – fun stuff!  We had a CRAZY busy week, so the weekend, I hope, will be mellow – very mellow. :-)

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Laurie TheFrugalFarmer A mellow weekend sounds pretty attractive!  Definitely opposite of what mine will be this weekend haha.

  3. Holly at ClubThrifty says

That pool looks heavenly!  I really want a pool in our next home…but I don’t know if I can mentally handle spending money on it.  Know what I mean?
This weekend we have no plans!  We were gone all last week on vacation so this weekend is strictly for the kids.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Holly at ClubThrifty I absolutely know what you mean!  I read or watched something about pool prices a while back and holy crap!  You really have to want it.  Have fun with the kids this weekend!

  4. FrugalRules says

Sounds like you’ve got a busy weekend DC! We’re going to a BBQ tomorrow and likely some work as well – it seems to be never ending after coming back from our staycation.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

FrugalRules Speaking of BBQ…I need to set up my grill this week!  I still haven’t :0

  5. TheHeavyPurse says

If that was your pool,  you would have to host a pool party for all your friends! I love visiting friends with pools, but don’t like all the upkeep they need. And since the beach isn’t far away … :) Sounds like you have a great weekend ahead of you. We plan on relaxing, because we’re so exhausted from our vacation. It’s okay if you’re rolling your eyes. I am too. Have a great weekend!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

TheHeavyPurse Haha my best friend’s parents have a pool so I definitely hit it up quite a bit, probably have been there hundreds of times if you include high school.  Your vacation looked amazing but I actually know what you mean that it can be tiring to come home from it.

  6. BudgetBlonde says

Thanks so much for the mention!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

      BudgetBlonde No problem, Cat!

  7. Kevin @ Ask for Benefits says

I love your site design just the way it is! It is very clean, attractive and appealing. What are you trying to accomplish?

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Kevin @ Ask for Benefits Better SEO, better summaries on the main page, better summaries on the archives, better-looking text/headers/etc., better logo, the list goes on : )

  8. JourneytoSaving says

Have fun at the game! Sounds like you have a nice busy weekend ahead of you. That pool looks really tempting by the way. If the weather holds out, I plan on hitting the beach Sunday and hopefully relaxing.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

JourneytoSaving Thanks and yeah the pool does look tempting, if only it was in my backyard.  Have a good weekend!

  9. MonsterPiggyBank says

Thanks for the mention DC. I wish I had a pool too, but alas we just don’t have the room for it :(

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

MonsterPiggyBank Haha yeah I think everyone would love to have a swimming pool but don’t for various reasons.  Even if you have room it’s hard to justify the costs of putting it in and maintaining it.

  10. RFIndependence says

enjoy the game! Not much to report
here, quiet weekend after a particularly frustrating week fighting
around, I just want to swim and rest.

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

RFIndependence I hope you have a relaxing weekend!

  11. Beachbudget says

I wish my grandparents were still around to enjoy things with! Hope you have a great time. I wish I could relax this weekend but I have a million things going on. A bit overwhelmed actually so I need to make some changes. Take care DC!

    • DC @ Young Adult Money says

Beachbudget I definitely have been in your place (i.e. things getting overwhelming) and it’s not fun.  Yes, one set of grandparents still alive, don’t get to see them nearly enough!

  12. femmefrugality says

Sounds like a fun weekend!  We went to a ball game a couple days ago…of course it was the only one in the series (including the non-series first game of the double header) that the Pirates lost against the Cardinals. We have more free tickets, though, so we’ll try again!  Congrats to your soon-to-be groom friend!  Don’t get too crazy!

  13. Tara Zee says

thanks for the roundup post!  Good luck with the web designer… I think as long as you’re polite and pay on time when the time comes, she/he won’t mind the initial delay. :)

  14. TacklingOurDebt says

Hope your weekend went well, and good luck with getting your new renter settled in when the time comes.
